The Benedictine Cadets put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They took down Wayne County 38-21. Given Benedictine's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Wayne County is ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Benedictine's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Baker, who gained 81 total yards and two touchdowns. Na'seir Samuel and his 100 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Benedictine's victory.
Despite the loss, Wayne County still got an impressive performance from Matthew Fuller, who rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Fuller is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played.
Benedictine's win was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-1 Burke County and 7-2 Chambers (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.5% over those games). As for Wayne County, their loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benedictine will take on Islands at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Islands comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Wayne County, they will be playing at home against Southeast Bulloch at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
