The Halifax Academy Vikings's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 37-30 victory over Fayetteville Academy. The victory was just what Halifax Academy needed coming off of a 58-25 defeat in their prior match.
Halifax Academy found their leader in underclassman Hayden Barlow, who scored 13 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Barlow posted eight or more assists. Payton Odom was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Fayetteville Academy still got an impressive performance from Riley Duchon, who scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Polly Miller, who scored seven points.
Halifax Academy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7. As for Fayetteville Academy, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Halifax Academy will challenge Kerr-Vance Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Fayetteville Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. David's at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully St. David's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
