You can't lose the contest if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Avon Eagles's strategy against the Elyria Pioneers on Wednesday. Avon blew past Elyria 54-32. Given Avon's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Elyria is ranked 576th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Avon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Molly Drenik, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Drenik is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abby Owens, who scored 17 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Avon and bumps their season record up to 11-7. As for Elyria, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Avon will head out on the road to take on North Ridgeville at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. North Ridgeville will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Elyria will take on Olmsted Falls at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Olmsted Falls will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
