Cary-Grove extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 7-20 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dundee-Crown Chargers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Trojans have suffered since April 28th.
Green Addison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Aubrey Longergan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two triples and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Paityn Ahlquist, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Dundee-Crown, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 16, 2024.
On Dundee-Crown's side, they got a great performance from Reese Westland as she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. What's more, Westland posted four strikeouts, the most she's had over her last ten matchups.
On the hitting side, Madysen Schillaci was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Abigail Hsu was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Cary-Grove will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Vernon Hills at 4:00 p.m. on the 27th. As for Dundee-Crown, they will venture away from home to square off against Elgin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
