HOBBS, N.M. -
Clovis (N.M.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 12 in New Mexico, but was stunned by
Hobbs (N.M.), 30-28. Hobbs was ranked at No. 21 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for New Mexico coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a
Kolin Zembas touchdown run in the second quarter, the Eagles were up 23-7 at the half.
Hobbs led by as many as nine points before the Wildcats cut into the final margin.
The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which Clovis took, 55-0.
The loss comes after Clovis defeated Sandia 42-24 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for HHS, which was coming off a 52-12 defeat at the hands of Cleveland in its previous game. The loss ended Clovis' three-game winning streak.
Hobbs (7-2) will play a 5A District 4 game against Carlsbad next week, while Clovis (4-5) will take on Carlsbad also in a 5A District 4 game.
