The El Monte Lions suffered their biggest defeat since December 27, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 66-46 loss at the hands of South El Monte. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss El Monte has suffered against South El Monte since January 27, 2020.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South El Monte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Titus Hernandez, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. That's the first time this season that Hernandez pulled down eight or more rebounds. Tony Aguilar was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 15 rebounds and four steals.
El Monte has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-20 record this season. As for South El Monte, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
El Monte will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Arroyo at 6:30 p.m. South El Monte will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against North Hollywood at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th.
