Basketball Recap: Henry Washington Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Canyon Springs

Orange Vista had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 23-point drubbing they dealt Canyon Springs on Tuesday. Everything went the Orange Vista Coyotes' way against the Canyon Springs Cougars as the Orange Vista Coyotes made off with a 67-44 victory. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Cougars are ranked 526th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Orange Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Henry Washington, who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Washington is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Adrian Viray, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 20 points.

Washington wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Orange Vista was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Springs only racked up six assists.

Despite the loss, Canyon Springs still got an impressive performance from Derek Williams, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 22 points and five boards. What's more, Williams also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Isaiah Wall was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Orange Vista is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Canyon Springs, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.

Orange Vista and JW North will meet in a canine-themed contest at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Orange Vista will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Canyon Springs, they will square off against Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Canyon Springs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
