Baseball Recap: Saucon Valley Extends Winning Streak to Three

Saucon Valley extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 13-3 in the process. They put the hurt on the Catasauqua Rough Riders with a sharp 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Chase Luckenbach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Zak Ziegler and Carter Bidwell did most of the damage at the plate: Ziegler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Bidwell went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Noah Hubert was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Saucon Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Catasauqua struck out seven times.

As for Catasauqua, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

On Catasauqua's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Fotta, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saucon Valley will head out to square off against Southern Lehigh at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Catasauqua, they will head out on the road to challenge Louis E. Dieruff at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
