Ryder Widick made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Jayden McNamara was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Thomas Gonnella, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Satellite came up short against Harmony on Friday and fell 9-5. The Scorpions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jaidan Batts was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Randall, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Melbourne Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Satellite, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Melbourne Central Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Satellite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Melbourne Central Catholic skirted past Satellite 2-1 when the teams last played on Tuesday. Does Melbourne Central Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Satellite turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
