Volleyball Recap: Dexter Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Emily Delarosa and Kaellie Vandenbout

Dexter lost against Ruidoso last Tuesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Demons lost 3-0 to the Warriors.

Dexter was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-20, 25-19.

Dexter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaellie Vandenbout, who had five digs, five aces, and one block, and Emily DeLaRosa, who had four digs and two blocks. DeLaRosa has been hot for a while, having also posted 12 or more assists the last 23 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Melody Duran, who had nine kills, three digs, and two blocks.

Ruidoso got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Makenzie 'Mak' Wilson out in front who had eight digs and three aces. Those eight digs gave Wilson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Ramos, who had 15 assists and eight digs.

Dexter has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. As for Ruidoso, they pushed their record up to 13-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Dexter is set to take on their familiar foe New Mexico Military Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ruidoso will challenge rival Tularosa at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
