Pisgah has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Puckett Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only eight points in their last contest, Pisgah made sure to put some points up on the board against McLaurin on Friday. Pisgah blew past McLaurin 53-14 at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Pisgah had established a 31 point advantage.
Pisgah's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paxton Cottingham, who rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Cottingham hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Pisgah also got a significant boost from Caleb Grant, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.
Meanwhile, Puckett can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They really took it to Pelahatchie for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-13 win on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-7.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Puckett to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samuelle Gray, who rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also picked up 56 receiving yards. Gray was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was JaVarius Fletcher, who rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Pisgah's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Puckett, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Pisgah has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 263.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've been averaging 183.9 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Pisgah might still be hurting after the 35-13 loss they got from Puckett in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. Can Pisgah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
