The Mitchell Bluejackets will venture away from home to square off against the Loogootee Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mitchell is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
Barr-Reeve hit Mitchell with a seven-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bluejackets came up short against the Vikings, falling 12-2.
Mitchell saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper McFadden, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Loogootee). Everything went their way against Shoals on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-6 win.
Jaxon Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Clayton Miller was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Rawlings Bell, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Loogootee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mitchell now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Loogootee, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13.
Mitchell was able to grind out a solid win over Loogootee when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
