The Spencer Greenwave have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 20 points or more this season. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 73-32 blowout they got at home against Jordan. Given Spencer's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Jordan is ranked 531st), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Gary Gaither, who scored 22 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. Key?shaun Sampton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven steals.
Spencer's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32.44 points. As for Jordan, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spencer won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Harris County at 4:30 p.m. on January 6th. Jordan will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Rutland at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Rutland is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
