Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Western Branch's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Western Branch barely beat Oscar Smith the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bruins were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Tigers on Friday. Considering the Bruins have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Western Branch got a great performance from Miles Melescu as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Melescu has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Markel Smith was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Logan Adams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Western Branch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .567. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Western Branch has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Oscar Smith, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
