The Southport Cardinals's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They walked away with a 67-57 win over Bloomington North. Southport's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Southport was led to victory by Donovan Brewer and Michael Johnson. Brewer scored 13 points, while Johnson scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The matchup was Johnson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jack Turner, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Bloomington North's loss came despite strong showings from Connor O'guinn and Luke Lindeman. O'guinn scored 26 points, while Lindeman dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Lindeman scored a full 29.8% of Bloomington North's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nehemiah Dangerfield, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bloomington North were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Southport's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Bloomington North, they have fallen quite a ways from their 19-6 record last season and are now at 1-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southport's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Avon at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Avon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southport in Indiana (Avon is ranked 83rd, while Southport is ranked 260th). Bloomington North won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Franklin Community at 7:30 p.m. on December 16th. Franklin Community has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
