Baseball Recap: Skutt Catholic Makes It Ten in a Row at Home

Skutt Catholic had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They blew past the South Sioux City Cardinals 11-1. The result was nothing new for the SkyHawks, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Easton Elam tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Bubba Day was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Guenther, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Skutt Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Sioux City only posted a batting average of .133.

Skutt Catholic pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Sioux City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Skutt Catholic will host Fremont at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for South Sioux City, they will be playing at home against Buena Vista at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.95 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
