After flying high against the Jefferson Silver Foxes last Tuesday, the El Paso Tigers came back down to earth. El Paso was dealt a 61-26 defeat at the hands of Burges on Friday. El Paso was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-5.
When it comes to explaining why El Paso lost, one person who can't be blamed is Amaris Ambriz. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with four steals. Ambriz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Thomas, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and four blocks.
Burges got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jordyn Hernandez out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Cameryn Morales, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
El Paso's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Burges, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-6.
El Paso will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Chapin at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Chapin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. Burges will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Andress at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Andress is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
