Softball Recap: South Point Wins Going Away Against Portsmouth

South Point won the last time they faced Portsmouth and things went their way on Monday too. The Pointers were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Trojans. The result was nothing new for the Pointers, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kota Copley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Copley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and four runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Kaylee Stidham was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Kidd, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs.

South Point hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portsmouth struck out nine times.

The win made it two in a row for South Point and bumps their season record up to 12-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Portsmouth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

South Point wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 13-3 win against Green on the 7th. As for Portsmouth, they have also already played their next matchup, a 6-0 defeat against Dawson-Bryant on the 6th.
