The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 41 points or more this season. They took their matchup on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 64-21 win over North Edgecombe. With SouthWest Edgecombe ahead 31-9 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Aaliyah Whitehead continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of K'Deidra (KD) Collins, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds.
The victory was the fourth in a row for SouthWest Edgecombe, bringing their record for this year to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for North Edgecombe, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. SouthWest Edgecombe and Greene Central will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Greene Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 431st, while SouthWest Edgecombe is ranked 146th). As for North Edgecombe, they will be playing at home against Southeast Halifax at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southeast Halifax is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
