After a string of three wins, the Marian Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 70-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercy. Marian has not had much luck with Mercy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Marian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mckenzie Swanson. Despite the final result, she scored 31 points along with nine rebounds. Swanson scored a full 49.2% of Marian's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. McKenley Reid was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Even though they lost, Marian were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Marian's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1. As for Mercy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Marian will head out on the road to face off against Regina at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Regina will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Marian is ranked 48th). Mercy will be home for the holidays to greet Divine Child at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Divine Child is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
