Holy Cross hasn't had much luck against Dixie Heights recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Indians will head out to challenge the Colonels at 5:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Wednesday, Holy Cross needed a bit of extra time to put away Trimble County. They won by a run and slipped past the Raiders 7-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on David Wilson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Cooper Brue was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI.
Dixie Heights came out on top against Scott on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Colonels narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Colonels have posted since April 27th.
Ian Meyers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Sean Mitchell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Dixie Heights' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 14-16 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Stulz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Dixie Heights now has a winning record of 17-16. As for Holy Cross, their record now sits at 13-19.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Holy Cross has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dixie Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Holy Cross couldn't quite get it done against Dixie Heights when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 7-2. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
