The Clover Hill Cavaliers suffered their biggest defeat since December 13, 2023 on Wednesday. They were the victim of a rough 63-39 loss at the hands of Monacan. While losing is never fun, Clover Hill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while Monacan is ranked 98th).
Monacan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amare Cooper, who scored 22 points along with two steals. Cooper hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Samuel Sims, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Clover Hill bumped their record down to 3-11 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Monacan, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.
Clover Hill will look to defend their home court on Friday against Richmond City School of the Arts at 7:15 p.m. Richmond City School of the Arts comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Monacan, they will head out on the road to take on Huguenot at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Huguenot and Monacan are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
