Lynden is 7-1 against Lakewood since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Lynden Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Lakewood Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Lynden is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Saturday, Lynden got themselves on the board against Burlington-Edison, but Burlington-Edison never followed suit. They had just enough and edged the Tigers out 2-0. Given Lynden's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Burlington-Edison is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Lakewood was not quite Sedro-Woolley's equal in the second half on Friday. Lakewood suffered a rough 42-21 defeat at the hands of Sedro-Woolley.
Despite the loss, Lakewood had strong showings from Kai Elwell, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Nash Espe, who threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
Lynden's win lifted them to 6-1 while Lakewood's loss dropped them down to 2-4.
Everything came up roses for Lynden against Lakewood in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 48-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lynden since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
