The Ironwood Eagles suffered their biggest loss since December 29, 2023 on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Sunrise Mountain, falling 69-37. While losing is never fun, Ironwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Sunrise Mountain is ranked 25th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunrise Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaden Maza, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Maza is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for five games straight. Another player making a difference was Addison Wiemann, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Ironwood and nudges their season record down to 5-16. As for Sunrise Mountain, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ironwood will face off against Kellis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Kellis' favor as the squad sits on 11 straight wins at home while Ironwood has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road. Sunrise Mountain will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
