Peninsula Catholic hadn't done well against Cape Henry Collegiate recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Knights blew past the Dolphins 16-8. Considering the Knights have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Casey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Casey was also stellar in the batter's box, going 5-for-6 with three RBI and two runs. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Peninsula Catholic got a massive performance out of Ava O'Shaughnessy-Tong, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI O'Shaughnessy-Tong has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Simmons, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Peninsula Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win made it two in a row for Peninsula Catholic and bumps their season record up to 13-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.
