SPRING VALLEY, Calif. -
Monte Vista (Spring Valley, Calif.) took an early lead against University City (San Diego, Calif.) and held on for a 41-2 victory on Saturday.
In the first quarter, the Monarchs put up 16 points. Monte Vista scored on a touchdown run by
Matt Gofigan and a
Thomas Walker touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a Gofigan touchdown run in the first quarter, MV was up 22-0 at the half.
The Spring Valley school grew its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. The Monarchs scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Walker.
Coming into the game Monte Vista had allowed 19.2 points per game this year. MV held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Centurions well below the 15.3 points it had been averaging per game.
The loss comes after University City defeated Castle Park 20-0 last week. The loss snapped University City's two-game winning streak.
