Lafayette is 2-8 against the Cardinals since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lafayette Fighting Irish will head out on the road to take on the Benton Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Lafayette will be strutting in after a win while the Cardinals will be coming in after a defeat.
Lafayette put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season last Monday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 64-35 win over East Buchanan. Given Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Benton came up short against the Hornets on Friday and fell 49-39.
Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Benton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6.
Lafayette was dealt a bruising 64-21 loss at the hands of the Cardinals when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Lafayette avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
