After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pleasanton, Somerset was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the John F. Kennedy Rockets a 7-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Landon Martinez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Somerset is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Martinez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Nathan Flores was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Theodore Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Somerset always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John F. Kennedy only posted an OBP of .385.
Somerset's victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-10. As for John F. Kennedy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.
