The Lake Hornets will face off against the Union Yellowjackets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Lake made easy work of Scott Central and carried off a 16-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won six in a row.
Wes Nester was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Nester was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
In other batting news, Trey Gray was a standout: he scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Kasen Tune was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Union was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They fell just short of Philadelphia by a score of 2-1. The Yellowjackets' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Union saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kooper Fultz, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Lake's victory bumped their record up to 19-4. As for Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lake has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Lake's way against Union in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Lake made off with a 16-3 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
