The Douglas Byrd Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 42-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Red Springs. Douglas Byrd was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Red Springs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November.
Douglas Byrd's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Leilani Grice, who scored seven points along with six rebounds, and Jazmine Burns who scored two points along with three steals. Burns is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sheryraye Johnson, who scored eight points.
Red Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leeangelo Cobb led the charge by scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for Cobb. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Locklear, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Douglas Byrd bumped their record down to 1-6 with that loss, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Red Springs, their win bumped their record up to 1-5.
