Basketball Recap: Merritt Island Christian Skates Past First Academy with Ease

Merritt Island Christian waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They breezed by the First Academy Eagles to the tune of 53-18. That 35 point margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Merritt Island Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Julia Rhodes, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Rhodes a new career-high in boards. Summer Snaith was another key player, going 6 for 10 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Merritt Island Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

First Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emma Brashear, who posted five points, and Marissa Hiatt, who had six points.

Merritt Island Christian's record is now 7-9. As for First Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.

Merritt Island Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-39 win against St. Edward's on the 18th. As for First Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-19 loss against Harvest Community on the 18th.
