Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] recap November 13, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Western Pennsylvania [WPAC] this week, Portage beat Blairsville 49-14. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Mustangs.
Shade moved up to 401 from 458 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of topping Northern Bedford County 42-36.
North Star's dynamic duo of Joey Berkebile and Justin Holcomb proved to be unstoppable against Tussey Mountain, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Berkebile threw for 225 yards and 1 touchdown and Holcomb had 164 yards receiving. Gus Strasisier helped North Star's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 33 yards.
Paul Tretter made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cougars lost to the Titans. The 5-foot-10 junior racked up 2 sacks.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Windber's Devon Tomlinson and Matt Barkley have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Tomlinson has thrown for 1,086 yards this season, while Barkley has 42 catches for 708 yards. Braden Fochtman from Berlin Brothersvalley leads the league in rushing with 1,801 yards.
Larry Stevens has rushed for 908 yards on 103 carries so far this year.
The Mountaineers are currently in second, while Meyersdale is in third.
Portage took down the Bobcats 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Caleb Kephart ran for 175 yards in the win.
