Basketball Recap: Heimir Helgason Key Part of a Team Effort in Blues Win

Asheville School (Independent) won the last time they faced Carolina Day and things went their way on Thursday too. Everything went the Asheville School (Independent) Blues' way against the Carolina Day Wildcats as the Asheville School (Independent) Blues made off with a 73-53 win. The Blues have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Asheville School (Independent) to victory, but perhaps none more so than Heimir Helgason, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Helgason's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Miki Gacic was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten assists.

The victory made it two in a row for Asheville School (Independent) and bumps their season record up to 14-6. As for Carolina Day, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Asheville School (Independent) won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Christ School at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Christ School knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 23 contests -- so hopefully Asheville School (Independent) likes a good challenge. As for Carolina Day, they and Hickory Christian Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
