Baseball Recap: Marshall Wins Going Away Against Tyler

After only two runs in their last matchup, Marshall made sure to put some runs up on the board against Tyler on Friday. The Mavericks put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 13-2 victory. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Aldo Enrriquez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Enrriquez was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Preston Reaves looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

Back at the plate, Marshall got a massive performance out of Jack Weaver, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Weaver is becoming a predictor of the Mavericks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 2-6-2 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Heard, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Marshall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Marshall's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-7-2. As for Tyler, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Marshall wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-0 loss against Hallsville on the 14th. Tyler has also already played their next contest (against Jacksonville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
