The Ardrey Kell Knights had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 56-48 win over Sun Valley. Given Ardrey Kell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Sun Valley is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ardrey Kell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bryson McCoy led the charge by scoring 8 points along with 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyler Fleck, who scored 14 points along with 3 steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyra Robinson, who scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds. Robinson scored a full 35.4% of Sun Valley's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Chloe Grant, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Sun Valley were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ardrey Kell only pulled down 12.
Ardrey Kell's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Sun Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.
Ardrey Kell will head out on the road to face off against Cuthbertson at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sun Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Queen's Grant at 6:00 p.m. Queen's Grant comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
