The Hempstead Bobcats will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Bellaire Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hempstead is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Hempstead had to suffer through a rough 61-32 loss at the hands of East Bernard. While losing is never fun, Hempstead can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1402nd, while East Bernard is ranked 596th).
Bellaire has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by Houston Math Science & Tech at home to the tune of 66-19. With Bellaire ahead 35-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Bellaire got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Indiana Pak out in front who scored 21 points along with three steals. Pak is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyniah Smith, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Hempstead's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Bellaire, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9.
