The East Lake Eagles fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Green Level Gators on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gators by a score of 58-56. While losing is never fun, East Lake can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 153rd in Florida, while Green Level is ranked 25th in North Carolina).
Despite the defeat, East Lake saw an underclassman step up: Jeremiah Cooper scored 21 points. Brody Church was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Isaac Ericksen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Green Level, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Tye Cain, who scored seven points.
East Lake bumped their record down to 9-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Green Level, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
East Lake won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Calvary Christian at 7:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Green Level won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Coral Glades at 1:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Coral Glades focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.
