The Seabreeze Sandcrabs are taking a road trip to take on the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Seabreeze will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Seabreeze had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Mainland on Thursday. Seabreeze was the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Mainland. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Sandcrabs considering their one-run performance the match before.
Jack Barron looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Austin Upchurch and Wrigley Zweifel did most of the damage at the plate: Upchurch went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Zweifel went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Upchurch has posted since back in April of 2024. Caiden Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-3.
Seabreeze kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mainland only managed two hits.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Toros.
The team relied heavily on Kevin Willis, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Xavier Ahr also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Seabreeze's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Augustine, their record now sits at 7-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seabreeze has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Augustine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Seabreeze beat St. Augustine 11-8 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Does Seabreeze have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Augustine turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
