The Edisto Cougars won the last time they faced the Barnwell Warhorses, and things went their way on Friday too. Edisto walked away with a 54-46 win over the Warhorses. The win made it back-to-back wins for Edisto.
Edisto got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was De'myah Simmons out in front who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Wade, who scored 15 points.
Despite the defeat, Barnwell saw an underclassman step up: Kaylen Mayes scored 23 points. That was a full 50% of Barnwell's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was J'Niyia Carree, who scored nine points.
Edisto's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9. As for Barnwell, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
Edisto will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. As for Barnwell, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Fighting Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Blackville-Hilda focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
