After two games on the road, Lumberton is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Pinecrest Patriots at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
The matchup between Lumberton and Cape Fear on Friday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. Lumberton walked away with a 67-57 win over Cape Fear. Lumberton's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Lumberton's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jaiden Shephard, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds, and Dimitrious Jones, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Shephard's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Amare Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest was able to grind out a solid win over Clayton on Wednesday, taking the game 58-50. The win made it back-to-back wins for Pinecrest.
Javion Saunders continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Melton, who scored 11 points.
Lumberton's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Pinecrest, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Lumberton didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Pinecrest in their previous meeting back in February of 2021, but they still walked away with a 54-50 win.
