Ashland will look to defend their home turf on Friday against Western Plains. Ashland is expected to win -- but not by much -- so they will need to come into the game prepared for a fight.
Ashland had to kick off their season on the road last Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against Natoma as the squad secured a 52-0 win. Ashland was expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
Meanwhile, Western Plains had to kick off their season with an away game, and unfortunately wound up with a long bus ride home. They were completely outmatched, falling 0-49 to Pawnee Heights. Western Plains were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 0-43.
Ashland's victory lifted them to 1-0 while Western Plains's defeat dropped them down to 0-1. In Ashland's victory, sophomore Gage Branson rushed for 70 yards and 1 touchdown and senior Cody Lohrding passed for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. We'll see if Western Plains have a strategy for dealing with them or if they lead their team to another successful outing.
