Even though the Coral Reef Barracudas have not done well against the Braddock Bulldogs recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Coral Reef managed a 70-64 victory over Braddock. The win was all the more spectacular given Coral Reef's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 428th, while Braddock is ranked 201st).
Coral Reef's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathaniel Wesley led the charge by scoring 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wesley has scored all season. Angel Santos was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Despite the loss, Braddock still got an impressive performance from Markus Zenck, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Lara, who scored 16 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Coral Reef and bumps their season record up to 6-11. As for Braddock, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-6 record this season.
Coral Reef will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Southwest at 7:30 p.m. Southwest is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. Braddock won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ferguson at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Ferguson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matches -- so hopefully Braddock likes a good challenge.
