After a string of four wins, the Okawville Rockets's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a hard 45-29 fall against Alton. While losing is never fun, Okawville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Alton is ranked fourth).
Despite the loss, Okawville still got an impressive performance from Alayna Kraus, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Kraus has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times she's played. Caroline Tepe was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Leading Alton to victory were Jarius Powers and Kiyoko Proctor. Powers dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Proctor scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Talia Norman, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Okawville's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Alton, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-1.
Okawville's road trip will continue as they head out to face O'Fallon at 5:00 p.m. on January 18th. One thing working in O'Fallon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests. As for Alton, they will square off against Nashville at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nashville is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
