The Timpanogos Timberwolves will face off against the Park City Miners at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Timpanogos had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They strolled past Mountain Crest with points to spare, taking the game 34-18. Timpanogos pushed the score to 27-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Mountain Crest cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Easton Bretzing, who rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 80 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Chase Riggs, who threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Timpanogos' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Jesse King and his 2.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, Park City can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They put the hurt on Dixie with a sharp 36-14 win. The victory was just what Park City needed coming off of a 35-9 loss in their prior game.
Park City can attribute much of their success to Carson Navarro, who rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns.
Timpanogos' win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 Uintah and 2-8 Logan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.4% over those games). As for Park City, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Timpanogos has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 465.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Park City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 396.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Timpanogos couldn't quite finish off Park City in their previous meeting back in August and fell 35-33. Can Timpanogos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
