The West Las Vegas Dons will challenge the Cobre Indians at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Las Vegas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Navajo Prep get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Dons sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.
Malie Satete was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, West Las Vegas got a massive performance out of Tyra Horner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases Horner has posted since back in March. Aliana Otero was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
West Las Vegas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Navajo Prep only posted a batting average of .100.
Cobre came out on top against Santa Fe Indian on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run third inning. The Indians were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Braves. The win was nothing new for the Indians as they're now sitting on three straight.
Like West Las Vegas, Cobre also got a great game from a two-way player: Bella Saiz. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Saiz was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Ezmyah Dominguez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Anahi Madrid, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
West Las Vegas' victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cobre, their record now sits at 20-7.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Las Vegas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Cobre struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Las Vegas suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Cobre in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Dons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
