Basketball Game Preview: Irwin County Indians vs. Brooks County Trojans

Irwin County hasn't had much luck against Brooks County recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Irwin County Indians will take on the Brooks County Trojans at 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, Irwin County was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to Atkinson County. While the Indians didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rebels 11-7 in the first quarter.

Irwin County might have lost, but man, Aaliyah Austin was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 32 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Austin's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Gordon, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Irwin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Brooks County entered their tilt with Echols County on Friday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 66-36 victory over the Wildcats. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Brooks County pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Irwin County, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Irwin County suffered a grim 58-37 defeat to Brooks County in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brooks County's Imani Hall, who posted 24 points and four steals.
