Basketball Recap: Alex Wolf's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cape Fear Academy over Greenfield

Cape Fear Academy lost against Greenfield back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes lost 65-45 to the Greenfield Knights. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Knights are ranked 26th).

Cape Fear Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alex Wolf, who posted eight points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Wolf a new career-high in boards. Colin Simmons was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Cape Fear Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Cape Fear Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for Greenfield, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Fear Academy will face off against Arendell Parrott Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cape Fear Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season. As for Greenfield, they will square off against Epiphany at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
