The Dunmore Bucks will take on the Montrose Meteors at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dunmore is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
Dunmore barely beat Holy Cross the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bucks put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 8-1 win last Monday. The Bucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Mason Stets made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three runs.
In other batting news, Dunmore let Max Forgione and Bobby Hoban run wild. Forgione went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Hoban went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Evan Mizenko, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Dunmore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holy Cross only posted a batting average of .174.
Meanwhile, Montrose never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lakeland, sneaking past 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Meteors have posted since April 9th.
The result came thanks to Christopher McGee's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, Adam Sorensen was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Montrose's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kasey Carey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Dunmore pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Montrose, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dunmore has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Montrose struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dunmore took their win against Montrose in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Bucks repeat their success, or do the Meteors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
