AAAA Region 5 recap October 8, 2013
Cole Garvin and Demarre Kitt provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Troup County. The connection went for 60 yards, the longest such play in AAAA Region 5 this season.
Alexander moved up to 136 from 183 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cougars climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Shaw 27-7.
Alexander's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Baylor Whitfield threw for 196 and 1 touchdown and Mikell Lands-Davis had 115 yards receiving. On the ground Lands-Davis chipped in 122 yards. Brian Dansereau helped Alexander's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 38 yards.
Matt Combs' team's dynamic duo of Whitfield and Lands-Davis proved tough for the Raiders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dansereau helped Alexander's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 38 yards.
Sandy Creek's Garvin and Kitt led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Garvin has thrown for 870 yards this season, while Kitt has 26 catches for 365 yards. The Cougars' Lands-Davis leads the league in rushing yards with 813.
A big matchup in AAAA Region 5 this week will be when Carrollton takes on the Tigers. The Trojans are in first place, while Troup County is in fourth place.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Carrollton beat Fayette County 52-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the Rayvan Teague's team.
