After a string of four wins, St. Mary's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Salem Witches by a score of 3-2. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Witches earlier this season, when they won 3-1.
St. Mary's wouldn't go down easily and took Salem into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking six-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 15-9.
Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Vanessa Magloire, who had 33 digs and four aces. Magloire is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last six games she's played.
St. Mary's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Salem, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.
